Day : 1   Arrive Delhi

Arrive by International flight, after traditional 'Swagat' (Welcome) our representative would assist you at airport & transfer to hotel for check in.

Delhi is a bustling metropolis, which successfully combines in its folds the ancient with modern. Its strategic location was the prime reasons why successive dynasties chose it as their seat of power. In fact, more mythological cities are believed to be here, like the city of Indraprastha from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, founded around 5000 BC. Numerous monuments were built over several centuries by different rulers like Qutub-ud-din Aibek, Alauddin Khilji, Tughlaks, Humayun & Shah Jahan, who built the Walled City Shah Jahanabad.

Later in first half of 20th century much of New Delhi was planned by Sir Edwin Lutyens, who laid out a grandiose central administrative area as a testament to British rule in India. The division in walled city & New Delhi also marks the division in life styles.

Day : 3   Delhi - Mandawa(280kms-6hrs)

Today, we drive to Mandawa in the heart of the semi-arid Shekhawati region. Shekhawati owes its name to Rao Shekha who ruled this area in the 14th century. The Fort of Mandawa was built in the year 1755 by Thakur Nawal Singh, the founder of the town. These were the times when Mandawa was settled & fortified by the rich & dominant Silk Route merchants of the region, who constructed many Havelis (Mansions), Chhatris (Cenotaphs), Temples & Baolis (Step-wells) with ornate frescoes adorning their walls & now aptly given the epithet - Open-Air Gallery. With the migration of these merchant families, their old settlements remained in total obscurity with no one to look after them. Mandawa still retains the charm & aura of a bygone era & coming here is like stepping into a different world.

On arrival to Mandawa,we visit Gulab Rai Haveli built in the year 1870 that has some of the best murals in Shekhawati on both the exterior & interior walls with elephants & camels on its façade. Goenka Double Haveli, built in the year 1890, with monumental frescoes of elephants & horses decorating its façade. Bansidhar Newatia Haveli built in the year 1921 combines traditional frescoes of horses & elephants with those depicting a young boy using a phone plus opulent touring cars & the Wright Brothers' plane. If time permits we may visit more Havelis of the region & observe the colourful village life in Rajasthan. Then we comeback for overnight stay at hotel.

Day : 4   Mandawa - Dundlod - Nawalgarh - Ramgarh - Mandawa( 150kms-4hrs)

Today we visit  Dundlod- A cluster of forts, havelis, and baolis-these words best introduce Dundlod, a small village situated in the heart of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. Visiting this village is like visiting an open-air art gallery that has not changed much since the time it was built. The Diwan Khana is built in the Mughal architectural style and is furnished with Louis the XIV furniture. It has a magnificent library, with a very rich collection of rare books on Indian history. One can see the family portraits of the thakurs, which remind one of the times gone by. Above this lies the Duchatta from where the ladies watched the court ceremonies in purdah.

The Tuganram Goenka Haveli is often locked but one can see fine mirror work above the windows on the upper walls of the courtyard. Finely preserved paintings under the eaves mostly comprise portraits in round frames. The haveli opposite this one is interesting, as the work could not be completed and it is possible to see how the artist sketched the drawings before adding color. Pictures include those of an elephant, a camel and its rider, and a horse. Other attractions in Dundlod include the Jagathia Haveli and Satyanarayan Temple.

Then we move towards  Nawalgarh which was founded in 1737 by Nawal Singh. The village has a high school (with a very British clock) and hundred of painted havelis. Most of the better known  Rajasthani families of merchants came out of Nawalgarh. Many buildings from the first part of the 20th century still exist. This is the town where you can see the finest Shekhawati frescos. The havelis still testify of the rich and  wealthy Marwari age of the 19th century. Worth visiting are:  Aath (eight) haveli complex, Anandilal Poddar haveli, Jodhraj Patodia haveli, Bansidhar Bhagat haveli, Chokhani haveli, Hotel Roop Niwas Palace.

Later we continue towards Ramgarh. It was founded  by a dissatisfied group of the Poddar family (splitting?) in 1791. The village was doing well until the late 19th century. Afterwards we visit the well known chhatri of  Ram Gopal Poddar with magnificent paintings there visit more Havelis of the region & observe the colourful village life in Rajasthan. Then we move down to hotel for overnight stay.

We now visit Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), a five-storied structure of pink sandstone.
